This is the Navajo word for our traditional homes. There are two basic shapes made from juniper wood and mud, providing natural insulation to the occupants. You will learn how they are built and some of the traditions and taboos of our culture while sitting inside the round hoghan.
Contrary to the belief of the Europeans and the history books still used in our schools today our oral history tells us we were here to be “discovered” by the Spaniards who were searching for the fables “seven cities of gold.” We also know what happened to the Anasazi Indians.
In full regalia the Navajo join with other tribes from around the nation to perform for your pleasure the traditional dances of their ancestors. Passed down from generation to generation, we invite you to listen to the beat of the earthly drum and learn the sacred meaning of the dances. Come join us and dance with the Indians.
